Organise an Event
When it comes to deciding how to raise money for Under Tree Schools there are really only two rules: stay safe and make sure it's legal! You can either let your imagination run wild or consider one of the following ideas:
Games night - have a marathon board games session and get sponsored for every hour you complete. Or have a computer games knockout tournament, charge people to enter and have a prize for the winner.
Quiz night - general knowledge, movies, pop, sport, team-based or solo quizzes are irresistible, especially if there's a prize at stake.
Tug-o-war contest - here's a great chance to make some money out of interdepartmental rivalries, and all you need is a rope, a ref and a bit of space.
Play DJ - organise a 60s/70s/80s/90s disco (or any other theme you can think of).
Band night - if you, your friends, or colleagues are musical, why not get together for a one-off gig and get everyone, everyone knows, to come?
Karaoke evening - always a hit (even with people who can't sing), you could arrange a X-Factor-style competition or just have a singsong. You may even be able to get a local pub to host the event.
Christmas Carol Concert
Classical musical evening
Coffee Morning / Afternoon Tea with raffle
Foodie night - play host/hostess for a themed culinary evening.
Safari Supper - organise a three course meal with different hosts for each course.
Have a cocktail night - make people's favourites for a fiver.
Wine and cheese evening with raffle
Sell some of your old stuff - car boot, garage, or jumble sale you are bound to have things lurking in the wardrobe, attic, or shed that other people would pay good money for.
Sponsored no drinking week or weight loss - display your will power and raise money by abstaining.
Dress down day - bring in a pound to wear what you want to work or school.
Sell food at work - choose something seasonal like ice cream or hot chocolate or universal favourites like cakes, biscuits etc. and there will be plenty of takers. Or a soup and bread lunch with raffle.
Matched giving - ask if your employer offers a matched giving scheme, where they could pledge the same total again as you raise for charity.
Personal sponsored run / walk / swim / bike ride / clean forest or beach near you
Invite local schools to have a mufti Day and donate £ 1 / child
Invite local schools to support UTS at their Summer / Christmas Fairs
Invite local churches to support UTS at their Carol Service
For larger events:
Invite local personality to entertain by a show, poetry reading, signing of book
Charity Ball: Winter or Summer Ball with auction prizes and raffle
Community major charity walk
Find out what's on in your area: what do people like doing and what will they pay money to come and see / do and have FUN !
Press release - the more people who know what you're doing, the more chance you'll have of raising your total and a well-written press release will help get your message out there. Use Facebook, Twitter, local advertising
Try and sell tickets before the event rather than on the night as this will affect the overall sum raised, work out your target.
Get a cheerful well organised team, you don't have to do it all. Have a last meeting where everyone knows exactly what they are doing and when. Assess Health & Safety issues.
Welcoming speech, people need to be reminded why they are there, thank them for coming, outline of charity's work and how the funds will be used,
Selling raffle tickets and auction prizes need to be slotted into the evening, do not do it at the end as people want to go home!
Donation buckets - people will donate as they leave if they have had a good time. Gift Aid forms
THANK your team and invite them to get involved
Whatever you decide to do, send us details of your forthcoming event to add to our Diary and tell us how it went for our News page
